Growing potatoes from seed

Sow the fine seed early under cover, prick out and grow on the young plants much as you would tomatoes, then harden off and plant out after the last frost into rich, well-prepared soil. Earth up the stems as they grow to protect the developing tubers from light, keep them watered, and lift once the plants begin to die back.

Give them an open, sunny site and fertile soil, and a single packet can fill a surprising stretch of bed.
